- I had a visit from my daughter at the weekend and met her Australian boyfriend Tom. She’s off to Australia in September for a year and is naturally very excited about it. How do I feel? Well I shall miss her dreadfully but assume I will deal with it. Her father and I went off to The Middle East, Qatar, in the early Eighties for four years, When I think about it, I feel sure we never worried about leaving unhappy parents: So I wish her well. As I wrote in Survive and Thrive after Trauma no-one should try to emotionally contain another person. The world is a big place but access to most corners of it is fairly easy. Let’s see where Herb and I can travel to: Perhaps using Rachel as an excuse.
- A Gosh moment happened on Father’s Day. My daughter passed a simple text message to Herb. The way my big children have responded to my marriage and life with Herb is great.
- Herb’s parents made a simple comment on their wedding card. Be kind to each other. Simple but probably the best message you could give any new couple. We can all become wrapped up in our stuff. I am going to try to remember those words.
